*What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide, a small protein (peptide), activates metabolic pathways to enhance blood sugar metabolism and reduce appetite by mimicking the hormone glucagon-like-peptide-1 (GLP-1). Familiar under brand names Ozempic® and Saxenda®, it initially treated type 2 diabetes. FDA-approved for diabetes in 2017, Semaglutide's suitability for weight loss was unveiled through subsequent research, leading to its FDA approval for weight loss as Wegovy® in June 2021. We administer Semaglutide under our own tailored program.
*How is Semaglutide administered?
Injected subcutaneously once a week in the abdomen, upper arm, or thigh, Semaglutide is easy to use. Rotate injection sites for consistent results, ensuring effective absorption.
*Common and Serious Side Effects:
Common side effects may encompass upset stomach, heartburn, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and more. Gastrointestinal effects are most prevalent. Serious side effects, although rare, include thyroid C-cell tumor risk, thyroid issues, vision changes, mood changes, heart palpitations, gallbladder problems, and more.
*Semaglutide vs. Other Weight Loss Medications:
Clinical trials highlight the potency of Semaglutide. In contrast to 5%-10% average weight loss from other medications, adults experienced about 15% weight loss over 68 weeks. Adolescents lost 16% of initial body weight on average. While oral options are cost-effective, Semaglutide's once-weekly dosing provides superior and sustained results, making it the first weekly GLP-1 agonist approved for weight loss.
